Trademark policy
Last updated: 26 September 2026
HollowScript’s code is open source under Apache-2.0 or MIT, at your option, and its specification and this site’s own writing are under CC BY 4.0. Those licences cover the code and the text. They do not cover the name, and they do not cover the logo: the logo and wordmark files are not licensed under CC BY 4.0, Apache-2.0 or MIT, and only this policy governs their use. HollowScript is a trademark of Soulstack, and this page explains how you may use it. The aim is simple: when someone sees the name, they should be able to trust that it means the language as specified here, or an implementation that honestly says what it is.
Uses that need no permission
Section titled “Uses that need no permission”- Talking about the language. Writing, teaching, blogging, giving talks, and naming a meetup or course that is about HollowScript, as long as it does not suggest that it is official or endorsed by us.
- Saying what your software works with. “A HollowScript plugin for your editor”, “embeds HollowScript”, “written in HollowScript”, “compatible with HollowScript 1.0”.
- Distributing unmodified releases. Packaging an official release, unchanged, for an operating system or package manager, under the HollowScript name.
- Describing an implementation truthfully. An independent implementation may say that it implements the HollowScript specification. It may say that it conforms only if it passes the conformance corpus described in chapter 19 for the version it claims.
Uses that need a different name
Section titled “Uses that need a different name”- Forks and modified versions. A modified version of the language, compiler or runtime must use a different name. You may say it is “based on HollowScript” or “a fork of HollowScript”.
- Products and company names. Do not use HollowScript, or a name that could be confused with it, as the name of your product, service, company or domain.
- Implying endorsement. Do not suggest that we sponsor, endorse or certify you or your work unless we have said so in writing.
The HollowScript logo is the mark shown in this site’s header: seven squares of a three by three grid that form an H, with the centre square green. You may use it, unaltered, for the uses that need no permission above, for example beside a link to this site or on a page saying that your software works with HollowScript. Do not change its colours, shape or proportions, add effects to it, combine it with another logo, or use it as, or as part of, the logo or icon of your own product. The official files and their usage guidance are published with the language’s source, in docs/brand/. Although they sit beside the CC BY 4.0 documentation there, those files are not licensed under CC BY 4.0, Apache-2.0 or MIT; this policy is the only thing that governs their use.
